Soul Messin' Allstars - Soul A Go Go 7-Inch

Soul Messin

The new Soul Messin’ Allstars cut Soul A Go Go salute’s the legendary monthly PBSFM night Soul-a-Go-Go and celebrates Australia’s community spirit that is Melbourne soul; the scene, the musicians, the DJ’s and the fans. Penned by Jake Mason (Cookin’ On 3 Burners) and Eric McCusker (Mondo Rock), the track invites you to Realign your mojo …. And groove at the Soul-a-Go-Go.

Recorded and produced on the leafy Eastside of Melbourne by Mason, all-in sessions were recorded with some of Melbourne’s finest players including members of The Putbacks, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, The Teskey Brothers, Fulton Street, The Meltdown, The Wolfgramm Sisters and Cara Robinson.

“It wasn’t until I was on other side of the world doing a radio interview with my Cookin’ On 3 Burners buddies did I realise how unique and special Melbourne’s music scene is, especially funk and soul.“

“This is only a pinch of the amazing players in this town, we could do a whole album with a different line-up on every track and there would still be more … in fact we might just do that one day” says Mason who put together the supergroup.

The Melbourne soul institution Soul-a-Go-Go is a monthly soul night that originally started back in 2007 when DJ Vince Peach was offered a night at The Laundry Bar Fitzroy. Pierre Baroni came up with the name and artwork and with other PBSFM announcers including Miss Goldie, Manchild, Mohair Slim and Richie 1250, a new benefit night for the community radio station was born. It became a flourishing and ongoing night of funk and soul over 2 floors. Featuring DJ’s, and eventually, live bands and special guests who were in town, it’s a mainstay of the Melbourne music scene. A night of music for lovers of getting down and having a good time.

More than 12 years later, the unofficial Soul-a-Go-Go theme is born, a song that gets down to Melbourne’s champeen funk and soul spinners.

“The PBS family of DJ’s and the station have been huge supporters of Melbourne soul, serving up our tracks at Soul-a-Go-Go and on air. We wrote this track to tip our hats to them”
